Aksakovo Municipality

Aksakovo Municipality is situated in Varna Province in Northeastern Bulgaria. It is the second largest municipality in terms of land size and population in the province, spanning a territory of 460.54 sq.km. It includes 23 settlements with a population of more than 35,000. It has access to the Black Sea via a four-kilometre coastline. The town of Aksakovo is situated only 10 km from Varna, the sea capital of Bulgaria.

Since antiquity, the territory of Aksakovo Municipality has offered favourable conditions to many cultures. In the Pobiti Kamani, or Stone Desert, area of the municipality, situated south of the town, prehistoric peoples from the Upper Paleolithic, or Old Stone Age, period dwelled in caves and outdoor settlements. The picturesque settings of Aksakovo Municipality abound in places suitable for rural, hunting and sports tourism.
